Retron

Template

The same starting point as Vutron, for React. Vite, Electron and a Material Plus interface are wired together, so a desktop application can be built and packaged the day it is created.

About this project

Retron is a skeleton for an Electron desktop application built with React and Vite. It exists for the reason a template usually does: the wiring between a bundler, a main process, a renderer, a router and a packager is a day of work that is the same in every project, and here it is already done. One command, npm init retron, creates a new project from it.

Inside are React with its router, global state in Redux Toolkit, Material Plus for the interface, i18next for translation, Playwright for automated tests, ESLint and Prettier over the source, and electron-builder for cross-platform packaging. A window manager turns multi-window support on with a single constant, the theme and the language reach every open window, IPC channels are typed by their arguments and their result, and a shared folder holds what both processes need while lint rules keep it process-agnostic.

Development runs on hot reload through Vite, builds target Windows, macOS and Linux, and the template is kept current with the React and Electron releases it sits on.
